Statement About My Practice:
“It’s not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the ones most responsive to change." –Charles Darwin. Learning how to adapt, improvise, and manage when things don’t go your way are essential building blocks to developing resilience and bolstering our physical and emotional well-being.
Description of treatment approach:
Dr. Amy Sheinberg is a psychodynamically oriented and integrative professional psychologist who is known for having a well-rounded, robust, up-to-date, and evidence-based clinical mastery of practical, solution-oriented, and grounded approaches and practices, including training and expertise in using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Attachment Theory, and other evidence-based theories and techniques.
She has over 30 years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families with a variety of issues, including but not limited to adjustment disorders, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, ADHD, eating disorders, expected and unexpected life and career transitions, including failure to launch and maturation impasses, communication failures, executive functioning deficits, and moving those in their mid-life into new chapters in late adulthood and/or the retirement phase. She skillfully guides and helps her patients to navigate complex situations, circumstances, chronic, persistent, long-standing frustrations, and discontent through active listening, inquisitiveness, and well-considered, practical, and strategic questioning. She focuses on bringing her patients new insights, fresh insights, and empowered, elevated, and optimized mindsets to find unexplored pathways toward lasting, meaningful, and consequential shifts and changes.
She is interested in what led them to seek out therapy at this junction and their desired outcomes while ensuring her patients are aware of their strengths, leverage, resiliencies, and “grit,” helping them to identify unnoticed blindspots, road bumps, and obstacles, while also strengthening or extinguishing known or newly identified shortcomings. By better understanding how their past intersects with their present and, in turn, creates their future, she hopes to help her patients develop self-awareness and introspection to empower them to accept what they cannot control and focus on what they can. To create healthy, adaptive, and practical strategies that are realistic, attainable, and within the individual’s control, she helps them to recognize what may be long-standing, maladaptively entrenched patterns that lead to self-defeating thoughts, self-sabotaging actions, and/or stagnating their successes, leaving them stuck in enduring, confused, perpetual, and unhelpful frameworks and fixed mindsets. Moreover, she makes a point to highlight how powerful even the simplest tweaks and adjustments can make immense differences, significant transformations, and powerful changes by reminding them of the bigger picture. Bringing her patients greater satisfaction, lasting revisions, and more fulfilling and meaningful relationships with themselves and others in the future, Dr. Sheinberg believes that “life begins at the edge of one’s comfort zone,” emphasizing that consequential learning, personal growth, and true fulfillment only come by stepping outside the familiar and comfortable, facing and overcoming fear, and embracing new experiences and opportunities.

I am not a member of any HMO/PPO insurance plan. Many insurance policies provide out-of-network benefits that reimburse to varying degrees. You are free to file for these benefits independently. My office will happily provide the necessary documents for you to file.
Payment is due on the day of service. Forms of payment include cash, credit cards (Amex, Discover, Mastercard, and Visa), and checks.
I return phone calls received within business hours the same day, and I am personally available for emergencies 24 hours a day. If there is a life-threatening emergency, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. I strive to have flexible office hours to facilitate your ongoing treatment and to provide availability for urgent sessions as needed.
No information from your treatment will be discussed with any third party unless it is deemed relevant to share with another doctor or party regarding your treatment plan. See Notice of Privacy Practice/HIPAA for more information.
I will be happy to respond to your query, within reason, but to do so via email or text, you must provide your consent, recognizing that email is not a secure form of communication. Please see The Consent for Email/Text Communication for more information.
I am interested in getting to know each patient individually to understand their complaints and how these problems currently affect their lives. Once this process is accomplished, a treatment plan will be recommended.
The length of treatment is highly variable. It depends upon the nature of the presenting problems and the patient's goals for treatment. We can discuss this during your initial visits as we designate a treatment plan.
Since I only schedule one person per appointment time, that time slot is effectively sold once an appointment is made. If a non-standing appointment is missed or canceled with less than 48 hours' notice (or by noon on Friday if the appointment is on Monday or Tuesday), the patient will be billed according to the practitioner’s fee schedule. Holidays are not considered business days. Insurance may not be billed for these late cancellations or no-shows. Standing appointments are reserved. Unless you and I make another arrangement, missed standing appointment billings are generally billed. Not paying for the reserved time results in a loss to me, mainly due to the limited time in a day. Investing in keeping appointments is not only financial but also directly translates into achieving treatment goals.
